This initiative is dedicated to the first and second year classes of primary schools plus the nursery and infant schools. This programme was created by Martina Savio and is lead by Francesca Vendraminelli.
Duration : 90 minutes
This initiative is preceded by a presentation and a reading, which take place at the Children's Library. These readings describe tales and themes connected to some of the sculptors mythological and humorous works of art. The young students are shown how to focalize on the sculptor as an inventor and creator and in this way, they are stimulated to think about an imaginary and fantasy world where they can freely interpret the sculptor's works. In fact, by means of practical art drawings of various subjects taken from nature – used by the artist and then removed from their original context and assembled together, has proven to be a process that helps younger students to interpret art without restraint.
After this first section of the tour at the Library, the students are then accompanied to the actual exhibition where they receive their first “A — B — C of Art”. These initial artistic concepts are an aid for younger children so that they are able to de-codify and comprehend some of the artist's work but they also help in strengthening the students' creative potential.
One of the main objectives of this particular guided visit is to get the younger visitors to focalize their attention only on certain single elements, due to the fact that some of the works of art represent sacrilegious aspects. After the guided tour each of the students will be given a piece of paper which contains a drawing with a replica of the abovementioned elements — the students are then requested to reproduce their own version of the element by means of collage or drawing.
This work shop helps students of the first and second years of primary school to approach the works of art in an educational way that also stimulates their creative imagination; in fact the sculptural works become forms of emotions and sensations.
