Andrea Brustolon: Sculptor and Designer.

This initiative is dedicated to the third, fourth and fifth year classes of primary schools plus the first, second and third year classes of secondary schools. This programme was created by Martina Savio and is lead by Francesca Vendraminelli.

Duration : 90 minutes

During this programme the students are involved in activities in which they have to discover the artist Andrea Brustolon. The objective is to make students focus on the image of the sculptor as a designer and creative person. An artist, who managed to reach an absolute unbound concept of space, by way of drawings and was thus able to create such works of art and sculpture. In fact, for the artist Brustolon drawings were the means to sketch an idea which he would then finalize in great detail and subsequently transform and sculpt in wood. During the guided visit, students will be shown some of the artist's drawings so that they can grasp and understand in more detail the uses of graphical double dimensions and the three dimensional aspect of the sculpture. Furthermore, students will be shown the functional differences between a first sketch and final model and they will be able to view a general approach to graphical instruments.

The participants of this tour will be asked to observe the drawings of the exhibition and to then individualize its corresponding sculpture, they shall also be requested to find similitude and differences. After admiring and moving around the sculptures and works of art, students then have to chose a sculpture and to apply Brustolon's process in reverse by creating a replica of the piece they have chosen. This can be done either by means of a sketch and by using their imagination they have to try to imagine the artist's idea about the sculpture, or it can be done by means of a model piece, which requires more precision and details.

Therefore, students are each requested to bring along to the exhibition a soft lead pencil and a drawing or sketch book with a hard back rigid cover, so as to be able to sketch and draw without difficulty during the exhibition tour.
